On the 20th August 2009 the PARK(ing) Day organisers "walked the talk" we created a PARK for a photoshoot and also recorded exactly how much the PARK cost, time it took set up, take down, organise and lessons learned.

On Thursday 20th August the organisers of PARK(ing) Day will be “walking the talk” – we’ll be setting up a PARK for a photoshoot. It’s going to be a simple PARK – turf, seats, plants and a barrier. We’ll report back on how it went.

The students are powering along. They’ve been brainstorming and are coming up with some fantastic ideas!

This week they had lectures from four guests. Rebekah from Reverse Garbage, Magda from Dieke Richards and Claudia and Lorna from EDAW Aecom.

Rebekah shared some of the amazing things you can get from Reverse Garbage. I suggest that every PARKer visits to get some ideas for their PARKs.

Magda presented Dieke Richards’ 2008 PARK which was awarded “Brisbane’s Favourite PARK”. She shared a fantastic video of the PARK – (watch this space, we’ll be sharing it with you soon).

Claudia and Lorna presented EDAW Aecom’s PARK. Lorna showed the brainstorming event that assisted them to come up with a PARK – the “Park Fight Club: Sketch off” (download the presentation here) and Claudia shared the lessons that they learned. Those lessons are helpful for anyone creating a PARK. ***Watch this space for that presentation.

280 Queensland University of Technology (QUT) design students will be creating PARKs this year as part of their Collaborative Design unit. Teams of 10 Students and 1 Coach will work together to create individual and sponsored PARKs.

This is a huge effort and we will keep you updated of their progress on our website.

We would like to thank Sheona Thomson, the lecturer of the unit, for her hard work in organising PARK(ing) Day for the students.

If you would like to help out by providing a car space for a student PARK and/or have your business represented in a PARK please email us on brisparkingday@live.com
