Timeline 08/13/2009
There are 5 weeks until PARK(ing) Day and we’ve created a timeline as a guide so you aren’t having to organise things at the last minute (however this isn’t to say “last minute” PARKs aren’t possible and fun!) Most of the timeline is just a guide as to where you should be at. Anything with a star (*) is a deadline. If you could try and meet that deadline it would greatly assist the organisers of PARK(ing) Day. 5 Weeks left (14-20th August) - Have a design or an idea of what your PARK will look like. Use the PARK(ing) Day Inspiration Blog to come up with ideas (You can email us your ideas (written or visual) and we’ll add them to your PARK Profile – but it’s not a requirement). 4 Weeks left (21-27th August) - Work out where and what time you’ll be PARK(ing)- Investigate what the parking restrictions of the street are- It’s important to talk to businesses nearby. Talk about what time would be good for both of you - compromise and maybe set up at a time when business is slow. - Begin to collect the materials you’ll need for your PARK – furniture, plants, turf, props and barriers (which are very important - remember safety at all times) - We suggest you ask businesses to lend you things – tell them we will add them to our Supporters page. Also Reverse Garbage is a fantastic resource! 3 Weeks left (28th August - 3nd September) - * Email the PARK(ing) Day organisers (brisparkingday@live.com) with the exact location of your PARK (eg. Street name and suburb) - Begin creating prototypes of your design. One tip is to tape out the size of a car spaces and begin to add your elements to it 2 Weeks left (4-10th September) - * Register! (if you haven’t already) - * Email us if you are interested in being judged for the top 10 PARKs (remember you will recreate your PARK for West End LIVE - 3rd October) - Order turf (if needed) NOTE: It can sometimes take over a week for a landscape supplier to get some turf in – this is both for natural and synthetic - Order plants (if needed)- Order traffic cones or some sort of barrier NOTE: All parks need a barrier to traffic. Traffic cones are an added safety measure. 1 Week left (11-17th September) - Buy plants (if needed)- Finish constructing elements for your PARK- Confirm all travel arrangements - Check the weather and organise any wet weather options (if needed) - Check the PARK(ing) map to visit the other PARKs PARK(ing) Day (Friday 18th September) - Bring a camera/s to record on the day - record the whole process (setting up, chatting to visitors and the space afterwards). See our photo tips. - Wait for a car space - Set up your PARK - Obey all police. If someone asks you to move – do so. - Clean up – don’t leave anything behind. - Follow the PARK(ing) map and check out the other spaces After PARK(ing) Day - Upload photos to Flickr and video to You Tube or email us photos - Email us your stories of the day - Check out everyone else’s PARKs - RSVP for celebrations at West End LIVE West End LIVE!
